Ben Cavataro announces run for Student Body President
Former Student Senator Ben Cavataro has announced that he will be running for Student Body President with the Student Alliance in the upcoming spring elections.
Cavataro announced that his campaign will focus on getting more students involved with SG, bringing change to our university by increasing student participation.
“It’s time for leadership that will work for all of us, and that’s what our grassroots, student powered campaign is all about,” said Cavataro. “The current Student Government is out of touch and fails to provide leadership on issues like Bright Futures. It’s time for a change.”
Ben Cavataro was a member of the Student Senate for two years, respected for working with people on both sides of the aisle. As a leader in the Student Senate, Cavataro went from being the only member of the opposition to leading more than 20 Senators. He introduced landmark proposals to make the $14.4 million budget open and transparent, to end perks like free meals and cell phone minutes for officials, and to cut waste and bureaucracy. He also spearheaded proposals to create a Thanksgiving Travel Day, to stop Rec Sports from making handscanners mandatory, and to bring online voting to UF.
“Ben is a person of principle and character,” said Jonathan Ossip, Senator for Murphree. “Whether it’s his work in the Senate or his efforts to bring online voting to UF, Ben’s willingness to take on key issues is unmatched.”
Cavataro and the Student Alliance are currently looking for candidates to run for Senate with the party.
“Our top priority is bringing students from all backgrounds together,” said Cavataro. “Our party aims to make change from the bottom-up. We’re looking for leaders to join us in this effort.”
