Student Alliance chooses Sagar Sane as vice presidential nominee

After considering a diverse range of student leaders, the Student Alliance has nominated Sagar Sane, a University of Florida graduate student, as their candidate for Student Body Vice President. Sane joins Ben Cavataro on the Student Alliance’s executive ticket for the spring general election.

“I’m very excited to join the Student Alliance ticket,” said Sane. “This campaign represents a real opportunity to change our campus, and I’m glad to be a part of it.”

Sane added that he was attracted to the Student Alliance in part because of their democratic stance on the Reitz Union fee.

“Putting students in control of their money is extremely important to me, and it’s something that the Student Alliance cares about as well,” said Sane. “Their work to give students a vote is a major part of what drew me to the party, and as Vice President I will ensure that student voices are heard.”

Sane, who is of Indian decent, was born in Overland Park, Kansas. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Political Campaigning, and received his B.A. in History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

His experience working on mayoral and gubernatorial campaigns has given Sane the real world knowledge needed to administer Student Government’s cabinet. Sane cited trimming the wasteful bureaucracy found in Student Government as a top priority.

“The entire federal government has fifteen cabinet officers. Student Government has over 40,” said Sane. “My first goal as Vice President will be to reduce the size of cabinet and make Student Government work for students.”

Ben Cavataro, Sane’s Presidential running mate, expressed his excitement about having Sane on the ticket.

“Sagar’s a guy who always gets the job done,” said Cavataro. “He’s proved that throughout his academic and political career and he’ll prove that in Student Government. He’s got a good eye for organization, and he can manage people—that’s exactly what students deserve.”
